Happy 3 Year Nappiversary to ME!! Tons of Pics!!!

Late July-Early August 2008…BIG CHOP!!!

^^^ My hair straightened….

This pic was taken the other day….
I’ve had a ball with my natural hair. Its been 3 years of beautiful nappy days. I can’t wait to see what the future holds on this natural hair journey. Even on those bad hair days I’m glad I chopped off all my hair…3 years ago.

Shrinkage 101

I was browsing through recent pics and my hair appears to be the same length for the last year or so. Boy was I wrong!! My hair has a springy, snap-back type of thing going on. Apparently my hair is growing it just doesn’t really show. I tried different techniques like metal clips and shells on the ends of my hair to get it to stretch out…resulting in my hair snapping back in place as soon as I remove the clips. In these pics I am pulling my hair to show the length… I washed my hair after taking these pictures because it really shrinks after it gets wet. (Excuse my matted 2 week old twist out LOL!)

Violet Coils!

Spring is in the AIR and in the HAIR!!! I saw this purple tree/bush in full bloom as I was driving home…One of the MANY reasons purple/violet will ALWAYS be my favorite color. Isn’t it gorg? 🙂 In these pics I am wearing my Wash -n- Go hairstyle! I washed, conditioned, moisturized my hair and then I was on my way. It was a warm day so my  hair dried pretty fast…I will be wearing my wild child hair in warmer months…I have major shrinkage in these pics! LOL! I love my nappies.

First attempt::: Straightening my Hair since the BC!!!

Deep Conditioned/Hot Oil Treatment..

Detangled and Air-Dryed

After I pressed my hair I braided two semi-loose plaits on each side.. I used satin covered sponge rollers to curl the ends..

Straightened my hair on low-heat… I was going to press my hair from the heat of the stove but chickened-out, I pressed my hair with a plug-in pressing comb on Med/Low.

After my hot shower my hair shrunk and I lost some of the sheen/silky look…

Day 2

Day 3 I’m channeling my inner 1980’s chick…mushroom hairstyle!! LOL! It started as a joke, DH loved it so I wore it out like this. Groovy Dude.
========
I enjoyed the “straight” look for the 3-4 days it lasted. LOL! My hair is a 4b so it takes more heat or a higher temp to get the pressed look I was going for. My hair can be resistant to heat but it was very soft and VERY manageable. I will proceed with more confidence next time. I had no idea how to straighten my natural hair because my hair has been permed my whole life. I didn’t want to burn my hair off so I was super cautious this time with how much heat I put on my hair. After recently washing my hair my naps are back in full effect!! LOL! Does anyone recommend a flat iron that gets really hot with no damage? I love having options with my hair…I welcome all suggestions..
